Prototype

In Arid lands, there are existing rainwater beds, rivers and streams. Collecting the rainwater is increased by using the existing riverbeds. In the rainy season, excess rainwater is captured automatically and directed to the middle pond area. This area is designed to distribute the water to the side canals as it is filled. Side canals are supporting the Regenerative Area, where the COMMUNITY establishes a FOOD FOREST.

Middle Pond Creation
​
Area choice is based on the existing riverbed. Pond and Food Forest area are below the level of the existing riverbed. In the rainy season, excess water is collected and directed to this pond. The pond becomes the distribution centre of the side canals. The more rainwater comes in, the higher the water level goes.
Process
Existing plants, trees and bushes are gradually reduced and used as mulch on the growing areas, under the plants, trees and bushes. Nitrigen fixing trees, bushes and native-draught tolerant, but high yielding bushes, are planted around the Canopy trees. The soil around them is covered with prunings from the existing trees and bushes. In the first years, the focus is to keep the newly planted trees and bushes protected and nurtured. When the canopy trees are taking over their place, then the productivity increases and the workload reduces.
Replication of Prototype with Sustainable Villages

Following the same prototype principles, along the existing rainwater streams, replication continues. By collecting excess rainwater during the rainy season, we create more and more edible landscapes. Around these prototype areas, Sustainable Villages that connect people directly to the growing areas and manage those plantation areas as Community, are created. You can find our Sustainable Village vision on our website. In this way, we create Economic, Ecologic and Social sustainability in Arid landscapes. Creating communities around perennial food forests is essential to transforming Arid areas towards Sustainability and it is a solution to Global Warming and drought.
